Finding Cheap Bridal Accessories

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Finding cheap bridal accessories online or at a local retail store is not very hard to do. If you live in a bigger city that has many discount stores or outlet malls, you can find some wonderful bridal accessories at affordable prices. A cheap accessory does not mean that the quality is loss, it just means you are going to save money for other important things, like the honeymoon. Some of the things you need for your wedding include wedding invitations, thank you cards, dress, shoes, make up, jewelry, veils, wedding favors, flowers, garter, bridesmaids gifts, cake, cake topper, cake and server set and a guest book. Once you have all these bridal accessories, you should be set for your wedding day.

Sears and JC Penney’s have online outlet stores that do carry dresses, veils and shoes. You can always look through the websites to see if they have any closeout specials running, which in many cases, allows you to find some very good deals on designer dresses. Shoes and veils can also be found at these outlets or you might try a specialty shop for the veil and one for the shoes. Keep in mind, your veil or headpiece needs to compliment your dress and so do the shoes.

If you need make up, many websites offer sample make up for a very low cost. This would be a great way to fill your entire make up needs for a low cost. You can spend sixty to eighty dollars on make up that you may not use after the wedding, therefore, sample make up packages are idea. If you need nail polish or false nails that you can do yourself, you might also consider looking online. You can find cheaper ways then going to a nail saloon to have beautiful nails.

Flowers are a little harder to buy online unless you have a florist in your local area. Many flower shops allow you to design your bouquets online and they have everything ready the day of your wedding. For the most part though, flowers are usually the one thing you have to do in person. Cheap bridal accessories might also include rose petals for the miniature bride and do not forget the corsages for the men. Once you have your flower order made, you just have to look for the rest of your bridal accessory needs.

Another thing to keep in mind is the wedding cake. You can order cheap bridal accessories, but the cake is usually going to be full price unless you find someone to make the cake for you. You can find many cake pictures online and if you can, you could find someone to make the cake for you. Then all you need to do is find the cake topper, cake knife and the cake server. Along with the cake and cake accessories, you will want to find a guest book for your guests to record their names. These books usually come with a fancy pen attached right to the book.

How to Cut Wedding Costs

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Weddings can be quite expensive. In fact, a wedding, which will only last for a few minutes, followed by a reception that may last a few hours, can cost more than a new home or car. You can have a truly beautiful wedding without going overboard on the costs.

Start by understanding that the more professionals you have to hire, the more your wedding will cost. Determine early what you can do for yourself. Do you have an aunt who is a fabulous cook? She might be able to cater the party and bake the wedding cake. Is your uncle a photographer? He can take the pictures. Find help where ever you can among your family and friends to cut professional costs.

You will have to get creative. You can make your own flower arrangements and your own decorations. If you don’t know how, purchase or borrow a book that will show you how, or find the information online. Use artificial flowers instead of real ones, as long as the artificial flowers are cheaper, which they will be in most cases, especially if the flower is out of season.

Consider cheaper venue options. For example, if you are a member of a church, there usually is not a charge for holding the wedding in the church. For the reception, you could consider holding it in the backyard, or at another location that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

When shopping for your wedding dress, consider all of the options that are open to you. Look in the paper to see if anybody is selling a wedding dress. Also, look for sales. Wedding dresses are auctioned off on eBay daily. There is no need to pay thousands of dollars on a dress that you will wear exactly once. For the men, don’t buy tuxedos –rent them instead.

Again, your wedding does not have to be outrageously expensive to be beautiful. All it takes is some thought, creativity, and careful planning. You can have the wedding of your dreams at a fraction of the cost.

The Wedding Party

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

You are getting married! Congratulations. There are many, many plans to make, and of course, you need to choose your wedding party. Who will be the best man? Who will be the matron of honor? Whose feelings are about to get badly hurt?

Choosing the wedding party can be very excruciating for both the bride and the groom. Ideally, the groom would choose his best friend, his brother, or his father as the best man. Either of these choices would be fine will all involved. However, for the bride it is usually much more difficult.

The bride usually chooses her best married friend as the matron of honor…but which ones consider themselves to be the brides best friend? The chances are good that when you attend the wedding, every bridesmaid you see considers herself to be the brides best friend.

It almost never fails. Somebody’s feelings will be hurt when the bride and groom announce who will be in the wedding party. You can’t allow this to force you to make selections that you would not have made otherwise.

It is important to realize that this is your special day. You should have the people that you want standing up for you, and standing beside you. The fact is that if somebody else doesn’t like this decision, and they get mad to the point where they want nothing to do with it, you can’t really consider them a real friend anyway.

If the bride and groom are not careful, the number of bridesmaids and groomsmen can grow to large numbers – all because the bride and groom want to include, or feel forced to include, everyone that they consider a friend. You can’t allow this to happen. You have to pick an affordable number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, and stick with it.

If you really have no preferences as to who the best man and matron of honor are, let them pick straws. Let them know that they are all equally important to you, and that you just can’t decide. Also, let them know that no matter who is chosen as the matron of honor and the best man, it is not an indication that these people are liked or loved more than others.

Wedding Photography, Wedding Photographers

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Imagine this – you’ve been married for about two weeks, and you go to your photographer’s studio to pick up your wedding pictures, only to find out that something went wrong and the pictures were either destroyed or lost. There is no photographic record of your wedding to pass down to your children or grandchildren – and there is nothing that you can do about it.

Don’t think that it won’t happen to you. It happens all of the time, but you can avoid this nightmare. The key is to select the right photographer, and the right photographer will ensure that such a nightmare never occurs.

A good wedding photographer will first show you samples of his work. This will allow you to see how well you can expect your own wedding photos to turn out. He should ask to see the wedding and reception venue, he should talk with you about the shots that you want, he should offer you a contract, he should inquire about a safe place to keep extra equipment during the wedding and reception, and he should have an assistant.

A good photographer will use more than one camera at your wedding, to guard against having all photos lost if one camera malfunctions. He will have all of the extra equipment that he may need on the premises. He may even have an assistant at the wedding and reception getting additional shots from other angles.

A good photographer will be almost invisible at your wedding. He will know how to get the shots that he needs without getting in the way. He will show up on time, and probably even show up early to be sure that he has time to get set up properly.

A good photographer will give you references, and won’t have any problem with you checking them. He will most likely require a deposit, and will require the balance due when the photos are delivered. A good photographer will bet his reputation that you will be more than satisfied with his work!

Unique Weddings

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Your wedding should not only be special, it should be unique in the same way that you, your loved one, and your relationship are unique. Your wedding should show the guests who you are as a couple. Unique weddings range from traditional to the not-so-traditional.

You’ve heard of couples marrying in mid-air, while sky diving. You’ve probably heard of couples marrying under the surface of the ocean. These are unique ideas, but they may be more than what you are trying to accomplish.

Start by planning the wedding of your dreams. This is the wedding that you’ve always seen yourself at, as the bride. Use that dream as the core for your wedding, and then look for ways to make it unique.

One way to be unique is to request that people not bring or send wedding gifts. Instead, you can make arrangements through a local charity, and ask your friends and relatives to donate whatever they had intended to spend on your gift. This is not only a loving gesture, but it eliminates clutter when you and your spouse to be combine households. This is a good idea when you really already have everything that you need to set up and run a household.

You can choose a theme. Theme ideas include a spooky theme, a theme related to an old classic movie, a theme related to a holiday, or a theme related to a sport or hobby. You can get really creative with your decorations, and even ask the guests to come dressed in a certain way.

Most wedding receptions focus on the bride and groom. Why not move some of that focus to other married couples. For instance, if your grandparents have been married for sixty years, this is an accomplishment, and it should be recognized. There is no better time or place to do this than at your own wedding.

Remember that you are only limited by your imagination, and even though you want a unique wedding, you must also consider the comfort of your guests. When you are skydiving and getting married at the same time, the chances are good that the guests will not be jumping out of that plane with you!

Wedding Favors

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Everybody loves wedding – even if they say they don’t. Who couldn’t love witnessing the joining of two lives? Not only do your friends and loved ones want to be there to witness your happiness, they would also like mementoes of the event. They can have that in the form of wedding favors.

Wedding favors are becoming more and more popular. As guests arrive, they are given wedding favors. They may also be given the favors as they are leaving the wedding, or as they arrive or leave the reception. Whatever the bride and groom desire is fine.

Wedding favors do not have to be expensive. Typically, one type of gift is chosen for the women, and one type is chosen for the men, unless the gift is unisex. Gifts may include mugs with the couples picture and wedding date, candies, picture frames, candies, or a dozen other options.

Wedding favors, again, should serve as a memento of the wedding. This is why couples often have matchbooks with their names and the date on them, as well as napkins with the name and date. These are all considered as keepsakes.

Do not stress out over what you should give as wedding favors. Remember, there is no hard and fast rule. Choose your wedding favors based on your budget, your wedding colors, and your wedding theme. Everybody will get the same gift.

Gifts can be packaged in small bags that can easily be picked up or handed out, at whatever time you choose. These bags can be purchased in bulk at any stationary store. You can really dress them up with some ribbon and tissue paper as well.

Don’t go overboard with the wedding favors. Choose something small and inexpensive, and include a napkin and matchbook with the names of the couple and the wedding date on them in the gift bags. You might also consider including an exquisite chocolate in each bag.

Make Your Own Wedding Favors

Wedding Decorations

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

If you are planning your wedding, or helping someone else plan theirs, you can really let your creativity shine through with wedding decorations. No wedding is complete without decorations, and wedding decorations are not limited to flowers and ribbons.

Start by visiting your local crafts store. If you know the wedding colors, you will easily be able to spot potential decorations. For example, you will of course use flowers and ribbons, but what about lengths of faux beads in the wedding colors? These are usually inexpensive, and you can do a great deal with them.

Balloons are standard for decorations at the reception, but should be avoided in the wedding ceremony venue. You can decorate the end of the rows of chairs with small flower arrangements, ribbon, or faux beads. You can use white clothe for the aisle where the bride will walk as well.

Candles make great decorations for weddings, and add a bit of romance to the entire thing. Try to select candles that have a pleasant scent or no scent at all. You can make wreaths to cover candle holders to make them even more beautiful.

If you can make or obtain a lattice archway, you can get really creative. Decorate it with ivy and real or artificial flowers to make it really shine. The bride, groom, and wedding official will stand either under the archway, or just slightly in front of it. This makes a beautiful, serene backdrop for the ceremony.

Cloth can be used in a variety of ways. Try to choose silks in the wedding colors, and create swags where they seem appropriate. You can also opt to use a lot of netting in the wedding colors to create certain effects. There is a great deal that you can do with strings of colored lights as well, using either soft yellow lights, or lights that go with the wedding colors.

Wedding Planning – When Everything Is Going Wrong

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Make no mistake about it – planning a wedding can be very stressful. There are a million things that can go wrong, and according to Murphy’s Law, anything that can go wrong will. Unfortunately, we often make situations worse by the way that we react to them.

First, when something isn’t panning out, check your attitude towards the situation. If you wanted a horse and carriage, but you wake up on your wedding day to find that it is pouring down rain, this is a problem. First, call the rental company to find out if they have a closed carriage. If not, start calling limousine companies to see if you can reserve one at the last minute.

Even if you can’t find rented transportation on such short notice, don’t see your wedding as ruined. It’s not. It has just changed, and you will be arriving at the church by private car instead.

If the photographer doesn’t show up, get a good digital camera and a camcorder, and hand them to relatives that you trust to take pictures. The pictures may not turn out as good as you had hoped, but there will be pictures.

You can avoid situations such as these by hiring professionals that have good reputations, and paying a deposit. A couple of days before the wedding, you need to call everybody who has a role in the wedding or reception to again confirm. Let them know what time they should arrive, and whom they should check in with on arrival.

These are the biggest problems – a professional not showing up or a change in weather that affects the wedding. There are a hundred small things that can also go wrong, such as a small tear in the wedding dress, missing pieces of a tux, a pimple on the bride’s nose, etc. But these smaller things can quickly and easily be addressed. If there is a tear in the dress, it can be fixed or covered in some way. If a piece of a tux is missing, someone can be sent out to pick up the missing piece. If there is a pimple on the bride’s nose, there are numerous varieties of makeup that can cover that right up.

Again, how you look at the situation and react to it will determine whether it is going to ruin your wedding or not. But note this, in the end; nothing can really ruin your wedding, unless you allow it to. At the end of the day, you are still going to be married to the person you’ve chosen to spend your life with – and anything that went wrong will just become a part of the memory, and someday, you will even be able to smile about it. :)

The Legalities of Getting Married

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

If you are getting married, you most likely feel like you are on top of the world. This is how you should feel, however getting married is a big step, and there are many legal issues involved.

First, of course, you will need a marriage license. These are obtained through your County Clerk’s office, or the equivalent, depending on where you live. You will most likely need photo identification, a birth certificate, and divorce papers (if you are divorced) or a death certificate (if you are widowed). These will be required for both the man and the woman.

You may be required to take a blood test before obtaining the license as well. The cost of the blood test and the license will vary from one location to another. There may or may not be a waiting period as well. For example, if there is a three day waiting period, you will obtain the license, but not be free to marry for seventy-two hours after that point.

The person who performs the ceremony must have the authority to do so in your state. You can ask the person that you select about that authority, and they should give you enough information to check to be sure. However, in most cases, you will have personal knowledge of the wedding official, and be comfortable with them.

The bride has many legal issues to address. She must determine whether or not she will keep her maiden name, or use her husband’s surname. If she will be using her husband’s name, she will need to contact the Social Security Administration. She will also need to have her driver’s license changed, and credit cards changed.

The couple needs to take a serious look at insurance policies that already exist. The bride’s name needs to be changed, and the policy plan may also need to be changed to ‘employee and spouse’ or ‘employee and family.’

Finally, the couple will need to open bank accounts, both checking and savings, in both of their names. Some of these things will not be possible until after the marriage has taken place, however, some of these things can be addressed before the wedding as well.

On Your Wedding Day…

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Your wedding day should be as special, unique, and as beautiful as you are. It should be a dream day. There is nothing ordinary about it, and it should never be fraught with problems and crisis. There are many things that you can do to ensure that you do in fact have the wedding day of your dreams.

First, start by assigning someone capable the task of handling any problems that may crop up. This is vital if you don’t have a professional wedding planner. If you do have a wedding planner, you don’t need to do this. But if you don’t, there must be someone – other than you – that can deal with any problems that may pop up. Good choices include the matron of honor and/or the best man.

A day or two before the wedding, take the time to confirm all plans. Call the caterer, the florist, the baker, the photographer, the band, and the transportation professionals that you have lined up. Make sure that they are on track to arrive where they should be on time, and that there are no problems. Confirm plans for the honeymoon as well.

The day of or the day before the wedding, try to get a professional massage. This will serve well to relax you for your big day. Planning a wedding often means months of built up stress, and you want to look beautiful and rested for your wedding. This is essential for both the bride and the groom.

The day of the wedding will be busy, but it should not be stressful. The bride will typically have appointments to get her hair and nails done. Schedule these early in the day. Appoint or hire someone to do your makeup as well, although this should be done later, after you have donned your wedding dress in most cases.

Spend your day with family and friends, in a relaxing atmosphere. This may be at home, or even at a spa. Just be sure that the atmosphere is one in which you feel perfectly comfortable.
